What Does the NOSTOS Refurbishment Protocol Cover?

When a console enters our inventory, it doesn’t reach the shelf until it passes these checks:

1. The Deep Clean

We open almost every console we sell. We remove decades of Georgia dust, pet hair, and (honestly) dead spiders. We use 99% isopropyl alcohol on the logic boards and ultrasonic cleaning for plastic shells and buttons where necessary.

How Are Cartridge Slots and Ports Restored?

“Blowing on the cartridge” is a temporary fix that actually damages pins over time. We use specialized chemical contact cleaners (DeoxIT) and physical tensioning to ensure that N64 and NES slots grab the game correctly the first time, every time.

3. Capacitor & Battery Audit

For systems like the Game Gear or the OG Xbox, we check for leaking capacitors or “clock capacitors” that can destroy a motherboard. We also swap out 30-year-old internal save batteries in cartridges like Pokémon and Zelda so you don’t lose your progress.

4. Thermal Management

On newer “retro” systems like the PS3 or Xbox 360, we replace the dried-out factory thermal paste with high-performance cooling compounds. This keeps your system running quiet and prevents the dreaded “red ring” or “yellow light” failures.

5. The Stress Test

We don’t just see if it turns on. We run every console for at least 30 minutes. We test the controller ports, the AV output stability, and the disc-reading consistency on the “inner” and “outer” tracks of the laser.
